Reportable Conduct in Early Childhood Education and Care: Annual Refresher

A concise yearly update for ECEC professionals on recognising, reporting and responding to reportable conduct allegations across Australian jurisdictions.

This annual refresher course is designed for early childhood education and care educators, room leaders, centre directors and approved providers who have already completed foundational training in reportable conduct. It consolidates and updates your knowledge of the obligations that apply under Australia's state and territory Reportable Conduct Schemes, with practical guidance on recognising concerning behaviour, meeting notification and reporting deadlines, and supporting everyone involved through an investigation. The course reflects the current regulatory landscape, including the commencement of Queensland's Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 from 1 July 2026, Victoria's transition to the Social Services Regulator in February 2026, and the operational schemes in New South Wales, Western Australia, the Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania. It also clarifies the position in South Australia and the Northern Territory, which operate without a statutory Reportable Conduct Scheme but still impose significant child protection obligations on ECEC services. Lessons are brief, scenario-grounded and written in plain language so that busy ECEC professionals can complete the refresher efficiently and return to practice with renewed confidence. On finishing the course, participants will be able to identify reportable conduct categories relevant to ECEC settings, apply the correct notification timeline for their jurisdiction, support a fair and trauma-informed investigation process, and embed continuous improvement into their service's child safe culture.
