Child Safe Standards Induction: Policy, Code of Conduct and Professional Boundaries

A comprehensive induction course for new staff, volunteers and contractors in Australian education and care organisations, covering child safe policy, codes of conduct, professional boundaries and reporting obligations across all states and territories.

This course provides new starters in Australian education and care organisations with the foundational knowledge they need to work safely with children and young people from day one. Drawing on the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and the child safe legislative frameworks operating across every state and territory, participants will learn what child safety means in practice, how their organisation's policies and codes of conduct apply to their role, and where the boundaries of professional behaviour lie. The course covers key concepts including the definition of reportable conduct, the civil standard of proof used in investigations, the role of independent regulators such as the Office of the Children's Guardian (NSW), the Queensland Family and Child Commission, Victoria's Social Services Regulator, and equivalent bodies in Western Australia, the ACT and Tasmania. It also addresses the distinct positions of South Australia and the Northern Territory, which operate without a statutory Reportable Conduct Scheme but still carry significant child safe obligations under other legislation. By the end of this course, participants will be able to identify child safe behaviours, recognise conduct that may be reportable, understand their mandatory reporting obligations, and know how to raise concerns safely and promptly. The course is suitable for paid staff, volunteers and contractors regardless of whether they work in schools, early childhood services, out-of-school-hours care, disability services, or any other regulated care setting.
